ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Pine Hills Elementary students got a nice surprise recently when they stopped by their school.
More than 120 bikes were given to kids from Pine Hills Elementary. The Bikes For Kids Foundation made the delivery on the last day of school when the kids and their families thought they were just picking up their stuff.
Before the pandemic, third-graders participated in a bike safety course and wrote essays. Three of the best essays were selected and the kids were given a new bike. But after giving away the first three the rest of the bikes were wheeled out to kids standing a safe distance apart in the parking lot.
New York Life Insurance helped sponsor the event. Representative Kyle Williamson says the goal is to eventually deliver bikes to other schools in Orange and Seminole counties.
