On Monday, January 27, the LA Kings and Bikes for Kids Foundation gifted 65 third-graders at ISANA Achernar Academy with brand new bikes and helmets.
This event was part of G.O.A.L.S., which is an umbrella program that encompasses all LA Kings and Blue Shield of California-sponsored character building and wellness activities.
Leading up to the event, students learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and were asked to write an essay about his “I Have a Dream” speech. The students believed they were entering a contest in order to win a new bike, and that only 3 bikes would be awarded to the top submissions.
In the end, students were elated when it was revealed that all of them would be going home with a new bike.
Kings left winger Austin Wagner and right winger Matt Luff were there to help judge and award additional prizes to kids, along with Radio Analyst Daryl Evans and the LA Kings Ice Crew.
To cap the excitement surrounding the event, the third graders have been invited to attend the Kings upcoming Black History Month celebration game at STAPLES Center on February 26 where they will get to hear from an Kings alumni!
