Sharon Contreras, Superintendent Guilford County Schools
Dear Bob,
Your incredible contribution of “Bikes for Kids” has changed the lives of hundreds of our third grade students. Our Title 1 children are among the most vulnerable in the district. The complex issues of poverty and the risk factors they are subject to is a challenge, yet despite the odds, I believe that we are making gains – especially when people like you get involved in a unique and incredibly effective way.
I hope you realize that your contribution of a bike and helmet is so much more. For our children, it’s a cause for hope; a moment of confidence; an encounter with role models who will impact them for years. Coupled with the character-building book they read and the essay they write, the entire program affirms in their hearts that hard work and dreams really do come true.
Please thank all of your Greensboro donors who made this dream happen. The Greensboro community has really stepped up to support our schools and I am confident that we can find the same support in High Point. Getting both communities committed could make an incredible impact on our most cherished gift – our children.
In the interest of all children,
Sharon L. Contreras, PhD.
